Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to join our team in Louisville, KY. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in histological techniques, excellent organizational abilities, and a collaborative mindset. This role is responsible for supporting high-quality laboratory diagnostics through precise specimen processing and staining procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination using standard histological techniques, including embedding, microtomy, and staining.
Perform recuts and apply special stains as requested.
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring all routine maintenance and quality control documentation is completed.
Clean and sterilize lab equipment, tools, and work areas to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Handle and dispose of hazardous waste according to regulatory standards.
Adhere to all applicable safety, regulatory, and organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA and OSHA requirements.
Troubleshoot equipment and technical issues as they arise.
Work closely with colleagues and supervisors to ensure accurate and timely processing of samples.
Perform general lab duties as needed, including those associated with Laboratory Assistant, Technician I, and Technician II roles.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Natural Sciences, or a related field; or Associate's degree in a science-related discipline with relevant laboratory experience.
2-3 years of hands-on experience in a histology laboratory is required.
Proficiency in standard and special staining techniques, with a strong focus on quality control.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be flexible to work overtime as needed to meet business demands.
