Candidate Expectations
* Looking for problem-solvers who can take initiative without constant direction.
* Preferred skills: Routing, switching, firewall security (Cisco and/or Fortinet).
* No certification requirements, but relevant experience is critical.
* Leadership mindset expected, even if the role is not a formal leadership position.
* Candidates must be methodical, documentation-focused, and strong troubleshooters.
Work Environment & Responsibilities
* Network team is integrated, unlike other segmented JCI teams (firewall, architecture, etc.).
* Team members handle all aspects of networking (firewalls, routing, switching, troubleshooting).
* Highly autonomous roles-candidates must identify and solve problems proactively.
* No strict industry background requirements, but manufacturing or life safety experience is a plus.
Candidates must be highly motivated self-starters. Ideal candidates will have at least 3 years experience working in a data center environment and 2 years of project management experience. The candidate must not be afraid to call out ongoing or upcoming issues, while maintaining and strengthening relationships with the business, his/her peers, management, and co-workers.
The ideal candidate will serve as the hands-on engineer and technical task leader and provide guidance to less-experienced network personnel. On-call and off-hours support required as needed. In addition to possessing a sound technical background, the candidate must be proficient in managing complex projects through to completion, bring an innovative approach and solutions to complex challenges, ensure security is at the forefront of solutioning, and be self-motivated and driven.
The ideal candidate will have his/her CCNP and minimum 5-years experience in a fast-paced, large network environment while supporting all facets of routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless.
* Continuous Improvement: Enhances department and organizational reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; proactively seeks out opportunities to add value to job accomplishments and improve processes. Initiates and leads projects aimed at optimizing network efficiency and security. Manage and perform life-cycle maintenance for all devices and supporting equipment
* Network Design and Implementation: Designs complex networking and circuit installations. Ensures that network designs support scalability, redundancy, and high availability. Provide support for all Network related initiatives, including hardware and process management, architecture, design, configuration.
* Network Deployment: Establishes and configures robust voice and data networks by installing and configuring telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs; coordinating with internal teams and external contractors. Manages the deployment of network security protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
* Advanced Network Configuration: Configures and optimizes network protocols, including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, HSRP, VPN, WAF, IPS, TCP/IP, UDP, CDN, DNS, load balancing, and other network protocols, ensuring high availability and redundancy within the network. Integrates new technologies to enhance network performance and reliability. Experience working with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) preferred.
* System Analysis: Collects and analyzes information from plant records, remote office site surveys, networking drawings, databases, and building schematics to identify potential improvements and ensure optimal network performance. Evaluates network performance metrics to recommend enhancements.
* Technical Documentation: Reads and interprets product information to engineer solutions that best meet technological and financial requirements; maintains comprehensive network and wireline drawings. Regularly updates documentation to reflect changes in the network infrastructure.
* Network Testing and Troubleshooting: Verifies service by performing testing on circuits and equipment; identifying, troubleshooting, correcting, or escalating problems to management. Proficiency with network capture analyzation and understanding using Wireshark or other network capture technology.
