A well-rounded and experienced Payroll Specialist is needed to support end-to-end payroll processing for both U.S. and Canadian employees. This position requires expert knowledge of payroll compliance, union rules, and Canadian payroll practices. You'll be responsible for ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and legal compliance in all aspects of payroll, while contributing to ongoing process improvement and supporting special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Process complex payroll for Canadian employees, ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial, and union regulations
Reconcile payroll data, identify and mitigate risks, and recommend process improvements
Research and resolve complex payroll issues in partnership with HR and other stakeholders
Ensure payroll practices align with all applicable wage and hour laws (U.S. and Canada)
Prepare and distribute custom payroll reports, including year-end, union fringes, and GL data
Monitor and implement union contract updates impacting payroll
Manage garnishments, child support, and levy orders in compliance with legal requirements
Maintain accurate payroll files and documentation
Support internal and external audits, including year-end reconciliation and reporting
Perform bank and tax reconciliations by payroll cycle, quarter, and year
Maintain confidentiality of employee data and payroll records
Participate in payroll-related projects as assigned by leadership
Qualifications:
Associate degree or equivalent experience required
5+ years of general payroll processing experience
Canadian payroll and union is a plus
1 + years experience with union payroll
Strong working knowledge of U.S. payroll laws and regulations
Experience using Workday HRIS platform strongly preferred
Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP EV5, ADP E-Time, and SmartCompliance
Strong attention to detail and project management skills
Must be able to commute to an on-site location in the Twin Cities west metro area 3 days per week
