Our client, in the insurance space, is seeking a detail-oriented freelance copywriter with experience in customer communications to help us review and refine outbound messages for our personal auto and home insurance customers.
This is a 6+ month contract role with the potential to extend and would be 4-days onsite in downtown Boston.
This role will focus on auditing and improving existing communications-including emails, letters, SMS, and policy notices-to ensure they are clear, accurate, empathetic, and consistent with our brand voice. You will help us improve how, when, and what we communicate to customers across the policyholder journey, from onboarding to renewals and claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing customer-facing communications (e.g., policy documents, billing notices, claims updates, non-renewal letters).
- Provide editorial feedback and recommend rewrites or improvements where appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Service, Claims, Underwriting, Legal, Communications, and Brand as needed to understand message purpose and constraints.
- Contribute to a centralized style guide and messaging framework.
- Flag outdated, duplicative, or unnecessary communications for review or retirement.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional copywriting, content strategy, or editorial experience-ideally in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.
- Deep understanding of plain language principles and ability to translate complex topics into customer-friendly language.
- Familiarity with personal lines insurance, especially auto and home policies, documents, and customer lifecycle.
- Exceptional editing and proofreading skills with attention to tone, structure, grammar, and message flow.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently on multiple reviews at once.
- Experience working with legal/compliance teams and interpreting regulatory guidelines.
