Position Overview:

A fast-paced organization is seeking an Accounting & Payroll Specialist to support both payroll processing and general accounting functions. This role plays a key part in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting compliance, and ensuring smooth payroll operations. The ideal candidate has a mix of payroll and accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll:

  • Process biweekly and/or monthly payroll in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations

  • Ensure accurate tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and payroll recordkeeping

  • Coordinate with HR on employee status changes affecting payroll (e.g., hires, terminations, benefits)

  • Assist with payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting

  • Prepare payroll summaries and reporting for internal leadership and external audits

Accounting:

  • Support monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations

  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and statements

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts including payroll, benefits, and tax-related accounts

  • Provide support with accounts payable/receivable transactions as needed

  • Perform bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow monitoring

  • Maintain accounting records and support documentation in line with internal controls

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy in cost tracking and allocations

  • Assist in preparing audit schedules and gathering documentation for internal and external audits

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred)

  • 1-2 years of accounting experience required

  • 1-2 years of payroll experience preferred

  • Experience with ERP or payroll systems (SAP experience a plus)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, VLOOKUP, pivot tables), Outlook, and Word

  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

  • Strong customer service orientation, both internally and externally
