HR Generalist - Payroll & Employee Relations
Location: Plymouth, MN
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000 annually
Overview
We are seeking an HR Generalist with a focus on Payroll and Employee Relations to join a dynamic and fast-paced HR team. This role will support both payroll processing and employee relations functions, ensuring accurate data entry, compliance, and timely employee record maintenance. The position also provides support for unemployment claims, termination processing, and serves as a back-up resource for the payroll and employee relations teams.
Key Responsibilities
General HR Support
Support compliance research and assist with implementing regulation changes.
Perform data entry with high accuracy and efficiency.
Provide excellent customer service to employees and internal stakeholders.
Assist with audits, data validation, and special projects as assigned.
Maintain and file employee records.
Serve as back-up for manager, supervisor, and HR Assistant roles when needed.
Maintain and implement departmental procedures.
Payroll Support
Assist with accurate payroll processing for a complex multi-state organization, including salary, hourly, commission, and special compensation calculations.
Review timecards for accuracy and resolve discrepancies throughout the pay period.
Support post-payroll activities and timelines.
Provide assistance to employees and managers with payroll, timekeeping, and tax-related questions.
Audit payroll and time data regularly to ensure accuracy.
Administer garnishments and ensure accurate data entry.
Process personnel status changes (e.g., transfers, promotions, rate increases) with proper approvals.
Train managers and employees on payroll and timekeeping system features.
Maintain payroll and timekeeping records, reports, and compliance documentation.
Employee Relations
Compile and respond to unemployment claims, maintaining proper recordkeeping.
Review termination requests for completeness and accuracy; partner with Employee Relations leadership as needed.
Conduct exit interviews and employee check-ins to identify trends and concerns.
Support investigations and employment issue resolution in partnership with the Employee Relations Supervisor and HR leadership.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (UKG Pro preferred).
Prior experience with both payroll and employee relations responsibilities.
Proven ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving HR environment.
