Zabbix SME (Subject Matter Expert)
Location: Englewood, CO

Overview
We are looking for someone to lead the implementation and integration of Zabbix within a new lab environment. The Zabbix SME will drive the configuration, integration, and optimization of the tool, ensuring accurate data flow and seamless interoperability across systems such as Jira and internal inventory databases.
This is a highly hands-on role suited for a proactive engineer with strong communication skills who can collaborate across technical and operational teams to train, guide, and scale Zabbix usage within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and configuration of Zabbix within a network lab environment.
- Develop and maintain integrations between Zabbix, Jira, and internal inventory systems, ensuring accurate communication and data flow.
- Configure monitoring parameters, community strings, and alert mechanisms to meet operational needs.
- Create and enhance Zabbix templates, scripts, and custom hooks to automate monitoring and reporting functions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define monitoring requirements and expand Zabbix coverage across additional lab environments.
- Serve as the primary Zabbix subject matter expert, providing technical guidance, documentation, and user training.
- Partner closely with engineering, network operations, and DevOps teams to ensure alignment and tool adoption.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Zabbix or similar network monitoring and observability platforms.
- Proven experience building, configuring, and customizing Zabbix, including templates, discovery rules, and automation hooks.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for tool customization and integration.
- Solid understanding of network monitoring concepts, SNMP, community strings, and data visualization within monitoring tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, present, and collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to drive tool adoption and scale monitoring solutions in enterprise environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in network engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure monitoring.
- Experience integrating monitoring tools with ITSM or ticketing platforms (e.g., Jira).
- Familiarity with lab or test environments in large enterprise settings.
