Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of property management accounting, general ledger operations, and financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of properties.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Record and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments related to property operations.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure accuracy of general ledger activity.
- Review lease agreements to ensure proper accounting for rent, escalations, recoveries, and CAM charges.
- Prepare and analyze variance reports comparing actual to budgeted results.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for assigned properties.
- Coordinate and communicate with property managers, asset managers, and operations teams to resolve accounting issues.
- Assist with year-end audits and provide necessary schedules and documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in property accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in property or real estate accounting.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
- Proficiency with property management/accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Timberline, or similar).
- Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred, not required.
