Beacon Hill Legal is seeking a Customs Compliance Expert for a hybrid, temporary to permanent role with our client in Dallas, TX. This is a full-time position and all work must be done during standard business hours.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors and evaluates actual and proposed customs, legal, and regulatory changes to determine
potential impact on company operations.
- Serves as a process expert in resolving complex customs compliance and audit-related issues.
- Conducts in-depth research and prepares customs memorandums to support key customs positions.
- Prepares duty drawback data to ensure maximum duty recovery.
- Collaborates with AG, customs consultants, and customs brokers to ensure correct application of
the “first sale” valuation method for inventory goods from plants and specific suppliers in China
and other countries, maximizing import tariff savings.
- Verifies supply chain security procedures in accordance with the US Customs-Trade Partnership Against
Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
- Supports execution of the US Trade Compliance Program (TCP) audit requirements, including entry
verification, tariff classifications, valuation, origin, antidumping, and training.
- Partners with HAG Compliance to address US and Canadian forced labor requirements.
- Provides expert guidance during customs audits to reduce liabilities and ensure compliance.
- Suggests strategies for protesting, appealing, and settling customs issues, and supports legal counsel by
gathering relevant documentation for litigation.
- Maintains and enhances databases containing tariff classifications, export control classification
numbers, other government agency information, and antidumping data to ensure consistent clearance
of imported goods.
- Assigns tariff classifications using expert knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff System, General Rules of
Interpretation, and prior customs rulings.
- Works with customs consultants to ensure timely resolution of entries flagged for reconciliation.
- Executes post-entry processes, including corrections, protests, and voluntary disclosures, ensuring
accuracy and compliance.
Job Specifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, or related field required.
- Master’s Degree in Business, Logistics, or related field preferred.
- Three (3) years of corporate customs experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of classification experience for construction tools and materials preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience with CTPAT and TCP processes preferred.
- Customs broker license preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of US and Canada Customs programs, including C-TPAT and TCP.
- Extensive knowledge of US and Canada customs laws and regulations.
- Ability to work with all parties involved in international transportation and customs clearances
including vendors, carriers, forwarders, agents, US customs, Canada customs, and other regulatory
agencies.
- Demonstrated strong conceptual and critical thinking skills with ability to apply innovative approaches
to problem solving.
- Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and SAP.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential material with discretion.
