A boutique tax firm with a nationally respected controversy practice is seeking a Senior Tax Controversy Associate with at least five years of direct experience handling federal and state tax disputes. This role offers meaningful responsibility, close collaboration with seasoned partners, and the chance to work on sophisticated matters in a small‑team environment.

Role Overview

• Manage federal, state, and local tax audits
• Handle IRS and state administrative appeals
• Draft petitions, motions, and briefs in U.S. Tax Court and federal district court
• Develop strategies for resolving civil tax disputes, including Offers in Compromise and penalty issues
• Advise individuals and businesses on complex income, payroll, and sales tax matters
• Support cases involving tax credits and incentives

Qualifications

• 5+ years of tax controversy or tax litigation experience
• Strong command of federal tax procedure and Tax Court practice
• Experience engaging with IRS and state taxing authorities
• Excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills
• Ability to manage matters independently while working closely with partners
• Practical, solution‑driven judgment
