Job Title: Clinical Staffing Coordinator
Shift: Evening/Night (8/12-hour shifts)
Weekends: Every third
Schedule: Set per 4-week period; may vary
Assignment Length: Contract through April 2026 with potential for hire
Pay Range: $20-$22/hour
Location: Saint Paul, MN
Position Summary
The Clinical Staffing Coordinator is responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing levels across patient care units by developing and implementing staffing plans, addressing emergent needs, and maintaining compliance with union contracts and organizational policies. This role works closely with nursing leadership to optimize workforce resources and support safe, efficient patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Staffing Planning & Coordination
- Review unit staffing requirements and confirm accuracy of scheduled staff.
- Develop and finalize staffing plans for upcoming shifts using available resources.
- Assign float team staff and update scheduling systems promptly.
- Ensure all staffing plans and actuals are entered into scheduling software within required timelines.
Problem-Solving & Resource Allocation
- Respond to staffing shortages or overages by reallocating resources, approving overtime, or arranging agency coverage.
- Collaborate with nursing supervisors to resolve urgent staffing issues.
- Implement contingency plans, including unit closures, when necessary.
Communication & Compliance
- Maintain clear, professional communication with unit leaders and staff.
- Apply union contract language and organizational policies when making staffing decisions.
- Document all staffing changes accurately and in compliance with guidelines.
Professional Standards
- Adhere to organizational mission, vision, and compliance standards.
- Manage time and resources effectively.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain job-related competencies.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred.
Experience:
- 2+ years in a centralized staffing office or similar role.
- Hospital administrative experience preferred.
- Experience staffing union employees preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments with frequent interruptions.
- Skilled in problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
