This long-term contract-to-hire role leads and manages the organization's NERC compliance program by setting annual compliance objectives, maintaining the compliance risk register, and ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory standards. The position drives audit readiness across all applicable registrations by coordinating evidence collection, quality reviews, and responses for audits, spot checks, and self-certifications. Responsibilities include conducting compliance gap analyses, overseeing root cause investigations, and managing corrective action plans through closure. The role also maintains program documentation and delivers executive-level reporting, while partnering with operations, engineering, asset management, legal, and cybersecurity teams to integrate compliance into daily operations and change management processes.
Requirements
7-10+ years of experience in energy compliance, operations, or cybersecurity with direct ownership of NERC Operations & Planning compliance.
Demonstrated experience building and managing an enterprise NERC compliance program, including policies, controls, evidence management, and reporting.
Strong audit leadership experience, including internal and external audits, spot checks, and self-certifications, with skills in gap analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
Experience serving as the primary liaison with NERC, FERC, and Regional Entities, including representing the organization in formal audit and compliance discussions.
Strong executive communication skills with the ability to brief leadership, guide operational and IT teams, and promote a reliability-first culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on NERC CIP experience, including asset identification, access controls, incident response, and change management across IT and OT environments.
Exposure to compliance requirements for wind, solar, and battery energy storage (BESS) assets, including evolving standards for inverter-based resources.
Experience developing role-based compliance training and awareness programs for operators, engineers, and contractors.
