Title: Principal Mainframe Software Engineer (COBOL, Oracle)
Location: Hybrid every other week onsite in Merrimack, NH
MUST HAVES:
8 years of COBOL language, JCL, VSAM, CICS, IOM
Scheduling - Control M
Strong DB (IBM DB2)
oracle and Postgres works
IBM DB2 is preference
Has Iterative SDLC environment experience
The Expertise You Bring
Deep hands on expertise with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch/online processing, IOM, and enterprise batch scheduling tools
Extensive experience designing, engineering, and optimizing mainframe applications.
SQL proficiency across DB2, Oracle, and/or Postgres with strong data analysis and performance debugging skills
Proven experience modernizing legacy mainframe systems and integrating with distributed or cloud architectures
Ability to research, architect, and deliver sophisticated end-to-end technical solutions
Strong Agile background with the ability to mentor teams and influence technical direction
Outstanding analytical, debugging, and cross functional collaboration skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science Engineering
Skills You Bring
Lead and contribute to architecture design initiatives that shape mainframe and hybrid platform solutions
Define and implement application and system level architectures for high-performance, resilient mainframe environments
Recommend development tools, testing frameworks, and engineering methodologies to improve quality and efficiency
Ensure production readiness, quality assurance, performance, and compliance with enterprise standards
Author comprehensive documentation including architecture diagrams, integration specs, and modernization playbooks
Lead full project lifecycle planning and execution for large-scale, cross platform initiatives
Identify engineering risks and drive mitigation strategies to ensure system resilience
Serve as a senior liaison to business and technology partners, translating requirements and resolving technical issues
Champion production stability by proactively monitoring, diagnosing, and resolving system issues, driving root cause analysis, and ensuring 24/7 reliability
