About the Role
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Project Accounting Manager to oversee financial performance across multiple projects, ensure accurate reporting, and partner closely with project managers and leadership. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, excels at translating financial data into actionable insight, and enjoys improving processes as the company grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the project accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely project setup, reporting, and closeout.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, cost tracking, revenue recognition, and overall financial health.
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and present findings to leadership and project teams.
- Review and approve project invoices, billing schedules, and client-facing financial documentation.
- Partner with project managers to support financial decision-making, risk management, and margin optimization.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and company policies.
- Analyze variances and investigate cost drivers, revenue performance, and contract alignment.
- Oversee the project accounting team and support development of staff, processes, and systems.
- Collaborate with FP&A, contracts, operations, and senior leadership on cross-functional initiatives.
- Support system enhancements and process improvements to streamline workflow and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (CPA or CMA is a plus).
- 5-8+ years of accounting experience, including project accounting or revenue accounting.
- Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff.
- Strong understanding of project cost accounting, revenue recognition (GAAP), WIP, and KPIs.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek, NetSuite, SAP, Unanet, Oracle).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
