A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Human Resources & Payroll Specialist to oversee critical HR functions and ensure smooth operational processes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This is a five day, on-site position south of Chicago near Midway.
THE ROLE:
- Manage weekly payroll processing, including auditing time sheets, calculating hours, and ensuring accurate reporting for both permanent and temporary staff.
- Maintain and update employee records, including payroll data, vacation accruals, and personal time, while coordinating with supervisors on exceptions.
- Administer benefit programs, including enrollments, status changes, premium calculations, and claims assistance, while serving as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries.
- Coordinate performance evaluation programs and maintain documentation of evaluations, attendance, and disciplinary actions.
- Oversee workers' compensation processes, including injury reporting, claims coordination, and compliance with insurance and government agencies.
- Support union-related activities, including wage and benefits summaries during contract negotiations.
- Maintain accurate and organized files for employee records, OSHA logs, workers' compensation claims, union grievances, and other HR documentation.
- Monitor and report safety issues identified through audits or external inspections, collaborating with plant supervisors to implement corrective actions.
YOU:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of HR experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Previous experience handling HR in a Union environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems, benefits administration, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS/payroll systems. (ADP preferred but not required)
