The Senior Accountant is responsible for implementing and maintaining strong internal controls, developing and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and performing complex account reconciliations. This role also oversees all company payroll functions, including reviewing and approving payroll postings. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in operational accounting and advanced proficiency in payroll administration.
Essential Functions
Accounting, Controls & Process Improvement
- Evaluate and improve accounting workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and internal control frameworks.
- Implement process automation and system enhancements to reduce manual work and increase operational transparency.
- Perform and oversee complex account reconciliations-including bank, intercompany, balance sheet, and AP/AR-while investigating and resolving discrepancies to maintain GAAP compliance.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger postings, ensuring accuracy and alignment with monthly and year-end close schedules.
Payroll Oversight
- Oversee all payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of wages, salaries, bonuses, and other compensation in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Lead payroll and finance-related projects such as system implementations, process redesigns, and policy updates.
- Stay current on payroll industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices.
- Direct year-end payroll reporting processes, including preparation, review, and distribution of W‑2 and 1099 forms.
Financial Analysis & Cross‑Functional Support
- Monitor financial data, labor costs, and benefits expenses to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
- Collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to align payroll, benefits, and workforce data with organizational objectives.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, coach, and develop payroll and accounting staff, fostering operational excellence, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience,
- Hands‑on experience with payroll processes or payroll oversight responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Proficiency with ERP and payroll systems; advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, problem‐solving, and communication abilities.
