Location: Cambridge, MA
Remote Flexibility: No (laboratory-based)
Contract Term: 12 months, likely extension or conversion
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Research Scientist/Sr. Research Scientist with extensive expertise in mass spectrometry-based bioanalysis, protein/peptide characterization, and analytical assay development.
The successful candidate will contribute to bioanalytical method development, validation, and large-scale study support across discovery and clinical programs, with a strong focus on LC-MS/MS (MRM), immunoprecipitation, and complementary biochemical techniques. This is a cross-functional role with significant impact on therapeutic discovery and development.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the development, optimization, and validation of LC-MS/MS assays (MRM mode) and IP assays for quantification of biomarkers, proteins, peptides, cytokines, and metabolites.
-
Design and execute workflows for peptide mapping, PTM analysis, disulfide bond mapping, and glycosylation analysis.
-
Develop fit-for-purpose bioanalytical methods for proteins with complex attributes (e.g., high MW, high glycosylation, unexpected MWs) using advanced enzymatic digestion strategies (deglycosylation, limited proteolysis).
-
Support cross-functional groups by providing detailed biochemical and analytical characterization of proteins and reagents.
-
Conduct advanced data processing and statistical analysis using multiple software platforms.
-
Maintain and troubleshoot instruments.
-
Author technical reports, SOPs, and electronic notebooks.
Qualifications
-
Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience with MS, or PhD.
-
Extensive experience with mass spectrometry analysis of proteins and peptides (QTRAP, Q-TOF, MALDI-TOF, Orbitrap Fusion/Lumos, QQQ with MRM method).
-
Demonstrated expertise in bioanalytical method development and validation for small and large molecules.
-
Experience performing intact and subunit protein MS analysis, including characterization of monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, and bispecific/trispecific biologics.
-
Strong working knowledge of biochemical assays (enzyme assays, colorimetric assays).
-
Hands-on experience with chromatography techniques (RP-HPLC, SEC, HILIC, nanoLC, microLC).
-
Proficiency in wet lab sample preparation techniques (SPE, IP, LLE).
Work Environment
-
Laboratory-based position in Cambridge, MA.
-
Fast-paced environment.
-
Close collaboration with cross-functional R&D and bioanalytical teams.
