Network Engineer

6 month contract to hire

Onsite in Lansing, MI

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Network Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise network systems. This hands-on role involves working both in the field and onsite to implement and support network hardware, software, and connectivity solutions that align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deploy, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems
• Apply firmware/software patches and hardware updates to resolve network issues and ensure system integrity
• Participate in planning and designing network architecture, including topology, hardware/software integration, and signal protocols
• Monitor performance, tune systems, and recommend optimizations for reliability and efficiency
• Perform capacity planning, risk assessments, and contingency planning
• Maintain technical documentation such as network diagrams, configuration standards, and backup procedures
• Support configuration and patching for VDI environments and Microsoft technologies (e.g., Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange)
• Create and maintain job aids and technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and onboarding
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal training efforts
• Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and routing issues including traffic filtering and scripting
• Evaluate and integrate new tools and services into the network management ecosystem

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field - or equivalent experience

Hands-on experience with:

• VDI patching/upgrades and paired image management
• VMware environment patching and maintenance
• Microsoft SQL Server (installations, upgrades, clustering)
• Active Directory in test/dev/prod environments
• Microsoft Exchange (on-premises)
• Windows Server deployment and management
• Azure Government Cloud (preferred)
• Strong understanding of network protocols, systems tuning, and fault resolution
• Valid Michigan driver's license (required for local travel)

• CompTIA Network+
• CompTIA Server+
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
• Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) - Windows Server
