Role Overview:
A well-established organization is seeking a detail-oriented and analytically driven Senior Investment Accountant to join their accounting team. This role will play a critical part in overseeing investment accounting activities while also contributing to core financial functions including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, a deep understanding of investment and fund accounting, and the ability to interpret financial data to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Investment & Fund Accounting:
Record and reconcile investment transactions across multiple asset classes (e.g., equities, fixed income, alternatives).
Maintain and analyze investment account activity, including capital calls, distributions, gains/losses, and unrealized changes.
Liaise with custodians, fund managers, and external partners to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Prepare investment-related schedules and reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Provide variance analysis and commentary on financial performance, particularly as it relates to investment activity.
Collaborate with team members to develop dashboards, reports, and presentations for leadership.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Participate in the annual budgeting process, including investment income projections and expense planning.
Support the development of financial models and rolling forecasts.
Monitor actual performance against budget, investigating variances and trends.
Audit & Compliance:
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for annual audit and tax filings.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
2+ years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, with direct exposure to investment accounting or fund accounting.
Strong understanding of GAAP and investment reporting standards.
Proficiency with Excel; experience with accounting and reporting systems a plus (e.g., Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, Yardi, etc.).
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
