ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Trust Fund Oversight & Compliance
    Manage daily trust account receipts and disbursements in strict compliance with individual state IOLTA rules and firm accounting procedures.
  • Complex Reconciliation & Financial Reporting
    Prepare and review detailed trust account reconciliations, including trust bank accounts vs. ledgers; identify and resolve discrepancies; generate reports for Finance leadership.
  • Process Improvement Leadership
    Lead initiatives to automate and optimize trust accounting workflows, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Advisory & Subject Matter Expertise
    Serve as the firm's primary expert on trust accounting, staying up to date with IOLTA regulations and advising on compliance and operational issues.
  • Residual Balance & Risk Management
    Proactively manage aging trust balances, engage partners and attorneys to resolve issues, and escalate compliance concerns to leadership and general counsel.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration
    Mentor junior staff and provide procedural guidance to the Accounting and Claims Recovery teams on trust-related tasks and reporting

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of Accounting
  • Law firm experience (working WITHIN a law firm)
  • Compliance & Regulatory Expertise: IOLTA rules, risk management
  • Technical Accounting: Bank/GL reconciliations, trust ledger accuracy, transaction review
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communication with attorneys, partners, and finance leadership
