A values-based nonprofit in Northeast Ohio is seeking a seasoned and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee all financial operations and help shape the future of a mission-oriented organization. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced financial leader to make a lasting impact by advancing equity, stability, and hope in underserved communities.
Position Overview
The CFO will lead all financial functions of the organization, including accounting, finance, treasury, risk management, and information technology. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will play a vital role in shaping financial strategy, ensuring organizational sustainability, and aligning operations with the organization's core mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the President & CEO and Board of Directors to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the organization's mission and long-term goals
Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Guide financial planning processes, including annual budgets, long-term financial forecasts, and performance analytics
Monitor financial trends, assess risks, and identify opportunities to strengthen the organization's fiscal health
Ensure regulatory compliance and implement policies that enhance operational efficiency and internal controls
Provide clear, timely financial reports and insights to senior leadership and the Board
Optimize resource allocation, identify cost-saving opportunities, and assess programmatic financial performance
Manage cash flow, investment portfolios, and debt obligations
Supervise fixed asset management and apply sound capitalization practices
Lead engagement with external auditors, funders, and investment advisors to ensure accountability and transparency
Mentor and manage the Finance and Information Technology teams, building internal capacity and supporting staff development
Collaborate with organizational leaders to align financial decisions with strategic objectives and community impact
Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board, offering financial guidance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations
Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 8 years of senior-level accounting experience, including at least 5 years in an executive or director-level finance role, within a nonprofit or public accounting setting. They have a strong command of nonprofit financial management, regulatory standards, and GAAP, along with a proven ability to drive strategic initiatives and manage financial risk.
Key qualifications include:
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred)
CPA certification strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
High ethical standards and a commitment to financial transparency and stewardship
Experience leading cross-functional teams and aligning financial practices with organizational values
