Payroll Specialist - Hybrid | Retail
Location: New York, NY (On-site with flexibility)
Compensation: $85,000 base + bonus
Industry: Retail / Consumer Goods
Team Structure: Compensation & Benefits (HR)

The Opportunity:
This role sits within the payroll function of the HR team and bridges the gap between the Payroll Coordinator and Payroll Manager. You'll work closely with HR, Finance, and a third-party processing partner to ensure seamless, compliant, and timely payroll for employees nationwide.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage biweekly multi-state payroll for both hourly and salaried employees
Review timekeeping records, audit hours worked, missed punches, and prepare corrections
Collaborate with the shared services team to finalize payroll for processing
Assist in monthly bonus processing (e.g., commissions, incentives)
Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees in a timely, professional manner
Support compliance efforts, including EEO filings, audits, and employment verifications
Update internal SOPs and assist in payroll-related training as needed
Participate in ad hoc payroll and HR projects
Ideal Profile:
3-5 years of multi-state payroll experience
Experience working with commissions and bonuses strongly preferred
Retail experience preferred
Strong proficiency in Excel (vLookup, pivot tables)
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and discretion with sensitive information
Team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
