Senior Payroll Specialist | Multi-State Payroll | UKG Expert
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join our growing company located in Strongsville, OH and take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations. This is a fully in-office role. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys optimizing processes, and is confident navigating complex payroll scenarios across multiple states.
What You'll Do
Oversee all phases of payroll processing for employees across several states, leveraging UKG and BullHorn.
Maintain strict adherence to federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax requirements, and company standards.
Review, verify, and update payroll data-including hours worked, deductions, benefits, and tax details.
Manage and process wage garnishments, child support orders, and other legal withholdings.
Partner closely with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure seamless data flow and troubleshoot any issues.
Support payroll system enhancements, including testing and rolling out new functionalities.
Create payroll-related reports, prepare journal entries, and support reconciliation and audit activities.
Address employee questions regarding compensation, deductions, and taxes in a timely and professional manner.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll regulations and system updates.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of hands-on payroll experience in a large, multi-state environment.
Strong background working with HRIS platforms and system integrations.
Deep expertise with UKG (high proficiency required).
In-depth understanding of payroll rules, tax compliance, and reporting best practices.
Experience supporting payroll accounting and general ledger processes.
Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and advanced formulas.
Meticulous attention to detail with excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to manage sensitive information appropriately.
Strong analytical mindset and a resourceful problem-solver.
Comfortable working independently while juggling multiple priorities.
