Senior Accountant - Washington, DC

Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a local client in Washington, DC in their search for a Senior Accountant to join their team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in nonprofit accounting, hands-on experience managing accounts payable, contracts, and grants, and a track record of success in a supervisory capacity.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a senior-level accounting professional to contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and monthly reconciliations

  • Manage the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor payments

  • Monitor and track contracts and grants, ensuring compliance with terms and reporting requirements

  • Lead and coordinate the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements and audit support

  • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions

  • Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for management and stakeholders

  • Maintain organized and complete financial records in accordance with internal policies and GAAP

  • Assist in developing and improving internal controls, financial procedures, and reporting processes

  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and assist with annual audits and compliance reviews

Requirements:

  • Supervisory experience

  • Nonprofit accounting experience

  • Hands-on experience with accounts payable (AP), contract management, and grant tracking/reporting

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
