Payroll Accountant - Columbia, MD

Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Columbia, MD in their search for a Payroll Accountant to join the team. This is a full-time, on-site position responsible for managing payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in payroll-related accounting, and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with end-to-end payroll processing, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly and/or semi-monthly payroll in compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Review, verify, and reconcile timekeeping records and payroll data.
• Prepare and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure proper documentation for audits.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with tax reporting requirements and payroll-related filings.
• Partner with HR and Finance teams to address payroll inquiries and resolve issues.
• Assist with payroll system enhancements and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years payroll processing/accounting experience; strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regs, and GAAP.
• Proficiency in payroll systems & Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, reporting).
• Nice to Have: Experience with Colleague software; Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance.
