Junior Accountant - [Washington, DC]

Beacon Hill Financial is partnering with an organization in the search for a motivated Junior Accountant to join their team. This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and play a key role in managing the full accounting cycle. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AR, AP, billing, and general ledger accounting, and will thrive in a high‑accountability environment where ownership, accuracy, and urgency are essential. Primary Responsibilities:

Accounts Receivable and Billing:
* Prepare and issue client invoices based on contracts, time & materials, and milestone schedules
* Review billing rates, hours, and expenses for accuracy prior to invoicing
* Apply cash receipts and reconcile accounts receivable balances
* Monitor aging schedules and proactively follow up on outstanding receivables
* Resolve client billing and payment issues efficiently and completely

Accounts Payable:
* Process vendor, subcontractor, and employee expense invoices with accurate coding and proper approvals
* Execute vendor payments according to established schedules
* Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies independently
* Maintain complete, audit‑ready AP documentation

General Ledger and Month-End Close:
* Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules accurately and on time
* Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
* Support monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close under firm deadlines
* Maintain general ledger accuracy and accountability for all assigned accounts

Project and Consulting Accounting:
* Track project costs, billable expenses, and revenue by engagement
* Partner with project managers to ensure accurate billing and margin visibility
* Assist with deferred revenue and work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedules

Reporting, Controls, and Ownership:
* Support internal financial reporting and ad‑hoc management requests
* Follow accounting policies, internal controls, and documentation standards
* Identify issues early and take complete ownership through resolution
* Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements
