Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a non-profit client in the search for a new Controller to join their team. This role will report directly to the CFO and will be in charge of managing the full-cycle accounting process, including overseeing both month-end close and the annual audit process. Prior managerial experience is preferred as this role will supervise three direct reports. This is a hybrid role that will require multiple days each week on-site in their Washington, DC based headquarters. If interested, please don't hesitate to apply with your most up-to-date resume!

Essential Job Duties

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and cash management

  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements and reporting

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

  • Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and local regulations, and donor requirements

  • Manage restricted and unrestricted fund accounting and ensure proper allocation of revenues and expenses

  • Collaborate with program and development teams to support grant reporting, compliance, and budget monitoring

  • Coordinate and oversee annual financial audits and preparation of Form 990

  • Support preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses for senior management and the board

  • Assist in developing financial strategies that align with the organization's long-term goals

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and operational efficiency
