About the Organization

Our client is a well-established nonprofit organization in the San Fernando Valley. As the organization grows, they are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance, and support strategic decision-making.

Position Summary

The Controller will manage the organization's accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls. This role requires a degreed accounting professional with prior accounting/finance experience and nonprofit expertise. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of guiding the financial strategy of a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of accounting and finance, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

• Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support operational planning.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as nonprofit reporting requirements (Form 990, grants, audits).

• Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

• Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and regulatory agencies as needed.

• Mentor and manage finance staff to enhance performance and professional growth.

• Provide financial guidance and reporting to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and senior management to support strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.

• 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.

• Nonprofit experience required (fund accounting, grants management, restricted funds).

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, NetSuite, or similar).

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting and analysis.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
