Position Summary
A healthcare company in Downtown Los Angeles is seeking a Referral Coordinator to join their team. The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and facilitating patient referrals to specialists, hospitals, and ancillary providers, ensuring an efficient and seamless process from start to finish. This role works collaboratively with healthcare providers, patients, and external partners to monitor referral progress, secure required authorizations, and promote continuity of care. The ideal candidate will bring solid experience in healthcare administration, strong communication and organizational skills, and a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic facilities, and external healthcare providers.
Verify insurance eligibility and obtain pre-authorizations as required.
Communicate with patients regarding referral details, scheduling, and follow-up instructions.
Track and document all referral activities and patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
Collaborate with clinical staff and providers to ensure timely completion of referrals.
Maintain strong relationships with external specialists, hospitals, and community partners to facilitate care coordination.
Monitor referral completion status and follow up with patients and providers as needed.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives to enhance referral workflows.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
2+ years of experience in a healthcare or medical office setting (experience in referrals, authorizations, or patient coordination preferred).
Familiarity with EHR systems (eClinicalWorks or similar preferred).
Knowledge of insurance plans, authorization processes, and referral management.
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient service.
Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment.
