A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and provide strategic financial oversight. This role partners closely with executive leadership to ensure strong financial management, accurate reporting, and operational excellence across the organization.
The Controller will oversee all core accounting functions, manage a finance team, and help guide the organization's long-term financial health.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cash management
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
Oversee grant accounting and restricted fund management
Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit regulatory requirements
Manage annual audits and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
Prepare financial reports and analysis for executive leadership and Board of Directors
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, supporting performance and professional development
Improve financial processes and systems to increase efficiency and scalability
Partner cross-functionally with program and operations teams
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit environment
3+ years in a supervisory or management role
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Experience with grant accounting and restricted funds
Proven ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
