Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Business Analyst / Product Owner with strong insurance domain experience to support increased project demands. This role is responsible for conducting requirements elicitation sessions, driving project deliverables, and partnering closely with both business leaders and IT teams. The ideal candidate brings a blend of business and technical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead delivery in an Agile environment.
This position requires someone who can operate with autonomy, manage both business-driven and IT projects, and serve as a trusted liaison between enterprise stakeholders, project managers, developers, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary liaison between business and technology teams to drive project execution.
Lead elicitation sessions to gather, analyze, and document detailed business requirements and user stories.
Collaborate with Project Managers and Product Owners to ensure clarity, alignment, and timely delivery.
Create and maintain process documentation, workflows, and functional/technical specifications.
Enter and manage User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, and updates within Atlassian JIRA.
Develop UAT test plans, support test case execution, and manage defect triage and resolution with IT and vendors.
Update and maintain ISO-based insurance forms using Word or LibreOffice.
Conduct daily stand-ups with onshore and offshore team members to review deliverables, risks, and blockers.
Partner with external web development vendors to support integration and resolve delivery issues.
Support end-to-end solution development, including policy administration systems and rating tools.
Contribute to underwriting modernization, digitization, and AI-enhanced insurance processes where applicable.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of Business Analyst and/or Product Owner experience in insurance, especially pricing, rating, actuarial tools, or specialty lines (e.g., Accident & Health, Cyber, Aviation, Construction, Employee Stop Loss).
Proven Agile leader skilled in backlog refinement, requirements gathering, and cross-team delivery.
Ability to work independently, think ahead, and lead BA deliverables without direct supervision.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior business leaders and present clearly.
Experience across both business-driven and IT project initiatives-not limited to pure IT roles.
Excellent stakeholder management skills across Business, IT, and external partners.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word power user, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
Experience with policy administration systems, insurance forms, and understanding policy lifecycle workflows.
Ability to document actuarial or rating data elements in Excel (preferred).
Hands-on experience with UAT leadership, defect management, and end-to-end project execution.
Comfort working with small vendor-led applications such as Dociphi, Quantiphi, Majesco, or similar.
Strong command of written and spoken English; resumes must be clean and professionally written.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Experience in specialty insurance lines, underwriting modernization, or insurance data analytics.
Exposure to generative or predictive AI tools (e.g., Azure AI, ChatGPT) is helpful but not required.
Familiarity with external development vendors and bridging technical/business communication gaps.
Ability to be onsite 1x/week in Madison, WI or NYC is a strong plus
