We are seeking a Lead Business Analyst to support key initiatives in the insurance and underwriting domain. This role involves leading business and technical requirement sessions, collaborating with IT and business leadership, and driving delivery across cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have experience bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions while demonstrating strong leadership and documentation skills.

Location: Madison, WI or New York, NY preferred (1 day per week onsite); remote candidates within the U.S. will also be considered.
Duration: 6 months with likely extensions
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM CST

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements-gathering sessions and collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams

  • Act as the liaison between business users and IT to deliver functional and technical solutions

  • Document requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria in tools like JIRA

  • Analyze processes, identify improvement opportunities, and develop workflow documentation and process maps

  • Lead UAT planning, execution, and defect management with internal teams and external vendors

  • Support development of insurance policies, forms, and letters, ensuring accuracy and regulatory alignment

  • Create presentations, test plans, and project documentation for leadership and business partners

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Product Owner, ideally in the insurance industry

  • Proven track record leading end-to-end delivery of business and IT-driven projects

  • Strong understanding of insurance pricing, rating tools, and policy administration systems

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills

  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and JIRA

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)

  • Ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and proactively solve problems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on projects involving actuarial systems, policy forms, or insurance data analytics

  • Familiarity with AI, predictive modeling, or digital underwriting transformation initiatives

  • Prior experience working with vendors or web development partners to resolve issues

  • Experience in specialty insurance lines (cyber, construction, aviation, accident and health, or stop-loss)
