The "Must-Haves"

  • Experience working in a Product Operating Model
  • Experience working as a PO with annuities
  • Strong agile background

Overview

We are seeking a Product Owner with 5-7 years of experience in financial services-specifically within life insurance or annuities-to support delivery and execution within a highly collaborative product organization. This role focuses on ensuring that backlog priorities, user stories, and iterative delivery align tightly with business needs.

Unlike a Product Manager role, this position does not own long-term strategy or people leadership. Instead, it plays a critical part in shaping execution, enabling delivery teams, and ensuring clarity across business and technical stakeholders.

This position is contract-to-hire, supporting initiatives across annuity servicing and may evolve to support life insurance products depending on organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Managers to translate product strategy into actionable backlogs and detailed requirements.

  • Own, refine, and prioritize epics, features, and user stories for actuarial-adjacent systems and financial product platforms.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for engineering and business teams during sprint planning and execution.

  • Ensure deliveries meet defined acceptance criteria, KPIs, and business outcomes.

  • Partner with stakeholders across actuarial, engineering, operations, and product teams to clarify requirements and resolve blockers.

  • Support system migrations and new product launches, including annuity contract migrations and life insurance product enhancements.

  • Research industry best practices and contribute insights to improve execution, processes, and adoption.

  • Provide clear documentation, maintain backlog hygiene, and ensure alignment across business and technical teams.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst in financial services.

  • Strong background working in Agile/Scrum, including backlog ownership and story writing.

  • Experience prioritizing work based on business value and navigating Agile product operating models.

  • Understanding of life insurance or annuity product lifecycles, especially in-force contract operations.

  • Ability to partner effectively with technical and non-technical teams.

  • Proficiency with Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Rally, Aha!) and strong documentation skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in annuity servicing or life insurance product administration.

  • Background in financial products, calculations, or contract servicing.

  • Exposure to APIs, enterprise architecture concepts, or system/data flow diagrams.

  • Certified Product Owner (CSPO) or related Agile certification.

  • Familiarity with actuarial or calculation engines is helpful but not required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Execution-focused Product Owner who thrives in Agile delivery environments.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and translating complex concepts into actionable work.

  • Strong communicator with excellent collaboration and organizational skills.

  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and confident owning delivery within cross-functional teams.

  • Interested in deepening PO expertise rather than immediately pursuing people leadership roles.

Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work on complex financial product platforms, partner closely with senior Product Managers and engineering leaders, and directly impact life and annuity servicing capabilities. It's an excellent fit for someone who loves building clarity, driving execution, and collaborating across business and technical teams.
