Summary of Role
We are seeking a Project Accounting Manager to oversee project-level financial management across a portfolio of development projects. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate project budgeting, forecasting, revenue recognition, and reporting, while supporting project managers and leadership with financial insights. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of GAAP, project-based accounting, and internal controls, and is capable of leading a small team to drive accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in project financials.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee project accounting, including setup, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and revenue recognition
Monitor project expenditures, margins, and profitability, providing variance analyses and KPIs to management
Prepare and review monthly project financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with project managers, operations, and procurement teams to align financial performance with business objectives
Ensure compliance with US GAAP, company policies, and internal controls across project financial processes
Manage billing, invoicing, and collections related to project contracts
Support corporate budgeting and forecasting processes by integrating project-level insights
Supervise and mentor project accounting staff, fostering professional development and strong performance
Implement process improvements and systems to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and visibility of project financials
Support external audits and reporting with project-level documentation and analyses
Qualifications and Requirements
6+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in project or construction/engineering accounting
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and project-based accounting principles (e.g., revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion)
Experience with ERP or project accounting systems (Deltek, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Yardi, or similar)
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Experience in real estate development, data centers, REITs, or infrastructure industries preferred
CPA or MBA preferred
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience required
Education
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
