Senior Accountant, CPA
Location: Washington, DC
Schedule: Hybrid or Remote flexibility, office located in Washington, DC

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team. This individual will play a key role in managing the company's general ledger, financial reporting, month end close process, and internal controls, while also leading and developing a small accounting team.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with at least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, prior management experience, and strong communication skills. This role requires both technical accounting expertise and the ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate cross functionally.
This position offers hybrid or remote flexibility, with access to our Washington, DC office as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute the month end and year end close process
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company accounting policies
Manage, mentor, and develop a small accounting team
Delegate responsibilities effectively and review team deliverables for accuracy and timeliness
Support external audit and tax preparation processes
Analyze financial results and provide variance analysis
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls
Partner cross functionally with FP&A and operational teams
Qualifications
Active CPA license required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Prior experience managing or supervising accounting staff
Strong knowledge of US GAAP
Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and lead effectively in a hybrid or remote environment
Preferred Experience
Background in nonprofit accounting or international accounting environments
Experience supporting audits
Exposure to financial reporting and internal controls
Experience in mid sized or growing organizations
