We are looking for an experience Business Development Marketing Manager for a global law firm in Chicago. The position is hybrid. The Business Development and Marketing Manager (BDMM) is responsible for driving growth and enhancing market visibility for transactional practices across the Midwest. The Business Development Manager will be collaborating with office, practice, and department leaders, as well as global and U.S. BD and marketing teams, this role focuses on strengthening client relationships and generating new business.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Lead and execute targeted marketing and business development initiatives for Midwest transactional practices.
  • Prepare high-quality pitches, capability statements, and presentations tailored to client needs.
  • Guide attorneys through the sales process, from lead generation to follow-up.
  • Manage business development pipelines and maintain practice experience records.
  • Identify cross-practice and cross-regional opportunities, collaborating with colleagues to drive strategy and measure progress.

Strategic Planning & Analysis

  • Support practice leaders in creating and implementing strategic business plans.
  • Utilize firm data and technology platforms to inform client development and sales efforts.

Profile Raising & Content

  • Boost practice visibility through events, sponsorships, PR, and social media.
  • Oversee legal directory and award submissions.
  • Assess profile-raising opportunities and support content development for thought leadership initiatives.

Event & Engagement Management

  • Lead planning and execution of strategic client events and speaking engagements.
  • Analyze attendee lists and prepare targeted materials.
  • Track engagement and follow-up activity in CRM systems.

Operations & Communication

  • Follow best practices to support efficiency and service excellence.
  • Establish and communicate clear departmental procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills while maintaining a consistent in-office presence to support team collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in key software (e.g., InDesign, InterAction, MS Office Suite) with ability to quickly learn new tools and systems
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and marketing techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Strong project management skills; able to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly detail-oriented with exceptional proofreading and fact-checking skills
  • Professional demeanor with high emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated ability to improve and innovate marketing materials and processes
  • Self-motivated with a curious, collaborative, and solutions-oriented mindset
  • Proven success building relationships and working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong business acumen and ability to understand the firm's services and goals
  • Effective leadership and delegation skills; able to supervise and mentor team members
  • Maintains discretion, sound judgment, and confidentiality
  • Adaptable and team-oriented; able to work independently or collaboratively in hybrid settings
  • Willingness to travel and adjust hours as needed for business needs

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 6 years of business development and marketing experience in a law firm or professional services environment; transactional practice experience preferred
