Beacon Hill's client, an Am Law 50 global law firm, is seeking a Trusts & Estates Paralegal for a long-term temp-to-hire opportunity in their San Diego (Del Mar) or Los Angeles office.

  • Location:
    • San Diego, CA 92130 (Del Mar) - Parking provided for contractors
    • Los Angeles, CA 90067
  • Onsite Requirement: 4 days per week, with potential flexibility to 3 days onsite for exceptional candidates.
  • Start: ASAP
  • Duration: Open-ended with the possibility of conversion to direct hire
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Candidate should also be flexible to work overtime as needed)
  • Pay: $46.53-$58.17/hour, depending on experience
  • Conversion Salary Range: $90,733-$126,750/year, depending on experience

Position Summary

This position supports a busy team handling probate matters, trust administration, and probate litigation. The Probate, Trusts & Estates Paralegal will assist attorneys in estate administrations and support the office's Probate Litigation group on a variety of matters. The firm is looking for an experienced professional who can step into a high-volume workflow with strong drafting abilities, excellent organization, and California probate experience. The role also includes general administrative duties and special projects as needed, requiring a professional who performs in an organized and efficient manner.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, strong client service skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong drafting skills, including petitions, pleadings, fiduciary accountings, and estate/gift tax returns
  • Comfortable managing dockets, strict deadlines, and a high-volume workflow
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines

Education & Prior Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and qualified as a Paralegal as pursuant to the California Business and Professional Code §6450 required.
  • Preferred: NALA Certified Paralegal or Advanced Certified Paralegal; NFPA Registered Paralegal or Certified Registered Paralegal
  • 5+ years of experience as a probate/estate planning paralegal in a law firm, including:
    • California probate court filings
    • Trust administration
    • Estate planning
    • Probate litigation support
  • Must be able to handle all aspects of estate planning, probate, and trust administration, including probate litigation filings in the California Superior Courts.
  • Nice to have: experience with international estate planning matters.

Technology

  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly

Key Responsibilities

  • Files probate documents with courts throughout the State and manages dockets
  • Marshals and obtains values of estate assets
  • Assists in the preparation of federal estate and gift tax returns
  • Prepares and files documents to transfer assets into trusts (real estate deeds, assignment of interests, transfer forms)
  • Coordinates with financial institutions to retitle accounts and beneficiary designations
  • Prepares fiduciary accountings
  • Prepares petitions for probate, trust-related documents, pleadings, and declarations with applicable courts, and manages dockets
  • Tracks deadlines and filing requirements
  • Assists with other department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Handles sensitive financial and family information with strict confidentiality
