Senior Design Operations Contractor (Remote)
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Duration: 6 Months+ (Likely Extensions/Conversion to FTE)
We're seeking a thoughtful and proactive Design Operations Contractor to help a high-performing design team operate at its best. This is a net new position created to address challenges around velocity, rigor, and operational cohesion.There is a general lack of standardized processes that will need to be addressed from a high level, thought leader perspective.
You'll work closely with design leadership and cross-functional partners to streamline operations and foster a healthy, productive design culture.
Immediate Focus Areas
- Workflow Optimization - Improve delivery speed and process efficiency
- Tool Management - Assess current tools, identify gaps, and recommend improvements
- Metrics Development - Create KPIs to measure design ops effectiveness
Responsibilities
- Refine and maintain design workflows to reduce friction and improve consistency
- Coordinate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and marketing teams
- Administer and optimize design tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Notion)
- Support design rituals like critiques, retros, and showcases
- Maintain documentation and knowledge management systems
- Track and report on team health, project progress, and operational improvements
- Manage vendor relationships and assist with budget tracking for tools, training, and events
Requirements
- 3-5 years in design operations, program management, or similar roles within design/product orgs
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with design tools and systems
- Collaborative mindset and ability to build trust across disciplines
- Comfortable in stable environments focused on continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in design or UX
- Experience in remote/distributed teams
- Familiarity with agile or lean methodologies
- Experience building a Design Ops program from the ground up
