The Investment Accountant is responsible for the accounting, valuation, and financial reporting of investment portfolios and related entities. This role ensures the accuracy of investment transactions, fair value measurements, income recognition, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Investment Accountants work closely with portfolio management, operations, finance, and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Accounting & Reporting
- Record and reconcile investment transactions including purchases, sales, income, corporate actions, and amortization
- Maintain accurate books and records for investment portfolios, funds, or entities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual investment accounting close processes
- Produce investment schedules and support financial statements (e.g., balance sheet, income statement, statement of net assets)
Valuation & NAV Support
- Calculate and review fair value of investments in accordance with GAAP/IFRS
- Support Net Asset Value (NAV) calculations
- Coordinate valuation inputs with portfolio managers and third-party valuation providers
- Document valuation methodologies and assumptions
Reconciliations & Controls
- Reconcile investment positions, cash, and income to custodians, brokers, and administrators
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support audits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Relevant experience in:
- Investment accounting
- Fund accounting
- Asset management, private equity, hedge fund, or financial services environments
- Strong understanding of GAAP (and/or IFRS as applicable)
- Experience with investment types such as equities, fixed income, derivatives, private investments, or alternatives
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling basics)
