Overview
An established organization within the retail sector is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its finance team. This position will support both payroll operations and general accounting functions, contributing to the accuracy of financial records and the overall close process.
The role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced finance environment. This position is hybrid onsite in Downtown Los Angeles.
Position Summary
The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for processing payroll for a mid-sized employee population while assisting with accounting tasks such as journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting support. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across payroll and accounting functions and enjoys supporting broader finance operations.
Key Responsibilities

Process regular payroll cycles for approximately 150-200 employees using an internal payroll platform, ensuring accuracy in wages, taxes, benefits, and deductions

Maintain payroll records including employee updates, compensation changes, and terminations

Review payroll data and assist with payroll reporting and documentation for compliance purposes

Respond to payroll-related questions from employees and internal teams

Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries and assist with general ledger maintenance

Support month-end close activities including account reconciliations and variance review

Assist with invoice review and coordination with accounts payable when needed

Support employee expense reimbursements through internal systems

Assist with financial reporting and other accounting tasks as requested

Provide support during audits and other finance-related projects
Qualifications

2-4 years of payroll and/or accounting experience

Experience processing payroll for 100+ employees preferred

Experience supporting payroll processing and accounting tasks such as journal entries or reconciliations

Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP or similar platforms preferred)
