A manufacturing company in Northbrook is looking for a temporary Logistics Specialist to support a fast-paced department. The Logistics Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day import and export transactions as well as record keeping and regulatory compliance. This role includes executing international freight contracts, managing ocean providers, data analysis, logistics invoice processing and managing international trade compliance, as well as ongoing international logistics services.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining internal controls program to ensure compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported/exported products.
- Interface with internal/external customers, foreign subsidiaries, distributors, vendors, brokers, and carriers to ensure compliance with all applicable import/export regulations.
- Maintains compliance with international trade compliance programs such as C-TPAT.
- Manages inquiries, performs research, and provides guidance to business personnel to address and solve purchase compliance issues based on the needs of the business including post entry filings, assist filings, harmonized tariff schedules and resolving duty discrepancies.
- Transportation planning including providing key data elements such as development of transportation lanes and rates.
- Day to day management of ocean carriers and forwarders. Working with providers to develop processes and procedures to address all facets of ocean freight shipments.
- Expedite shipments for buyers and request ocean and air freight quotes for import and exports shipments.
- Manage invoicing review and processing for all logistics providers.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with focus on Business, Logistics, International Trade, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience relating to trade compliance and logistics.
- Preferred Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)/Certified Export Specialist (CES) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification not required.
- Interpreting import/export laws, rulings, regulations and translating them into reasonable business practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification.
- Relevant work experience with specific understanding of supply chain and logistics concepts.
- Haz-Mat experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, etc.).
