Engineering Technician III – Mechatronics (Automation Team)
About the Role
Join our Automation Team building scalable, reconfigurable, high-throughput R&D lab systems. As an Engineering Technician III, you’ll help design, build, and deploy integrated robotic and automation solutions used across labs and external partners. This is a long-term contract role and will be on-site near the Oakland, CA area.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and integrate automated lab systems (mechanical, electrical, software).
- Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Partner with vendors and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable automation solutions.
- Maintain and repair deployed systems while identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute ideas that enhance efficiency, scalability, and performance.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years in a technical or automation role (lab or R&D preferred).
- Skills: Mechanical assembly, wiring, basic CAD (SolidWorks a plus), strong communication, and attention to detail.
- Mindset: Adaptable, proactive, and eager to learn new tools and technologies.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with lab automation systems (Agilent, Hamilton, Beckman/Labcyte).
- Workshop/fabrication or CAD design experience.
- Background in systems integration or manufacturing methods (GMP, Lean).
- Mentoring or team leadership experience.
