A major law firm seeks an Assistant Managing Clerk for their team. The role will be based in their Miami office and offers a flexible schedule of 4 days remote and 1 day in office.
Key Responsibilities
- Electronic filing of court documents;
- Serve process, pleadings and other legal documents (or arrange for service thereof with vendors) and file those documents in court according to Firm and court procedures;
- Calendar and docket important case deadlines in Firm’s Central Calendar system;
- Research as assigned by the Managing Attorney or Assistant Managing Attorney and communicate findings;
- Advise attorneys and legal assistants regarding electronic filing procedures and rules and communicate to them the status of electronic filing assignments in an expedient manner;
- Interact with court employees to discuss issues relating to court procedures and develop working relationships with court personnel;
- Communicate clearly with attorneys, legal assistants and others regarding court filings and service of documents;
- Handle and complete time sensitive e-filings with pending deadlines in a timely manner; and
- Assist with other projects as directed.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- 10+ years prior experience in a Managing Attorney’s or Managing Clerk’s Office. Experience as a paralegal or legal assistant with similar court filing responsibilities may be substituted;
- Knowledge of and prior filing experience with CM/ECF systems of various federal courts including but not limited to all federal courts (District and Bankruptcy Courts) in Florida, Georgia, Texas, DC, New York, and California) ;
- Knowledge of and prior experience with Florida Courts E-Filing, CourtMaps, Tyler, Lexis File & Serve and other filing systems;
- Knowledge of court procedures, service requirements and filing requirements (including but not limited to the Fed. Rules of Civil Pro., Fed. Rules of App. Pro., Florida Civil Procedure, FL Business Section Rules. as well as other state and federal courts’ rules is required;
- Experience calculating, calendaring and docketing important case dates in a centralized calendar system such as CompuLaw, Milana and eDockets, especially in but not limited to FL courts, is required.
- Ability to collaborate with others and have a strong client service focus;
- Excellent organizational skills and have strong attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently and under pressure;
- Must be tech savvy; superior knowledge of MS Office;
- Familiarity with PACER, Pacer Pro, and other courts’ docket retrieval systems;
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills;
- Willingness to work overtime as needed, or until a time sensitive filing/ assignment is completed
