Job Title: Cost Accountant
Job Description:
A private manufacturing company with more than a century of innovation and global reach is seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to support its financial operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate cost data, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring sound financial insights to improve operational decision-making. The role is based on-site and reports directly to the Controller.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and manage cost accounting systems, including standard costs and work-in-process accounts.

Analyze and resolve material, labor, and overhead variances related to rate, efficiency, and usage.

Close work orders, reconcile job costs, and ensure accurate inventory valuation.

Prepare and post journal entries as part of month-end and year-end closing processes.

Develop cost estimates for new projects and assist in rate calculations for annual budgets.

Investigate scrap, rework, and outside processing variances to maintain operational accuracy.

Create and maintain fixed asset records and support audits as required.

Represent the accounting team in meetings and collaborate across departments to improve data accuracy and process efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:

5 to 7 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.

Proficiency in Excel (intermediate level, including VLOOKUPs and PivotTables) and familiarity with ERP systems such as Sage 500.

Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cost Accounting Standards.

Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Capable of working independently with high attention to detail and urgency.

Adaptable in a fast-paced setting with evolving priorities.
