Responsibilities/Duties
The responsibilities of the Payroll Specialist are, but are not limited to:
Processed multi-state payroll across multiple pay schedules in Workday with accuracy and compliance.
Partnered with HRIS teams on system configuration, testing, and integrations.
Managed vacation/sick accruals and ensured timely processing of time-off requests.
Handled garnishments, child support orders, and tax levies in full regulatory compliance.
Completed employment verifications and coordinated employee record requests with HR Business Partners.
Maintained accurate employee data, including new hires, terminations, and job changes in payroll/HRIS systems.
Supported health, ancillary, and retirement benefits, including enrollments and terminations.
Assisted with year-end processing and W-2 compliance.
Performed general payroll and benefits administration duties.
Processed documentation with payroll vendors and carriers for accurate deductions and record-keeping.
Served as a point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries.
Supported monthly benefits reconciliation, ensuring accurate billing and coverage.
Managed unemployment claims and COBRA processing.
Prepared and analyzed payroll and benefits reports.
Drove process improvements and automation across payroll and HR systems.
Collaborated with Finance, HR, and external vendors to support smooth operations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, and best practices.
- High level of confidentiality and discretion.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals related to payroll.
