Legal Assistant (Business Litigation)

Location: Dallas, TX – Onsite

Overview

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive Legal Assistant to support a business litigation practice. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and takes genuine ownership of their attorney’s docket and client matters.

The ideal candidate brings experience supporting litigation in a professional, high-quality practice setting (rather than high-volume, form-driven environments) and demonstrates strong judgment, initiative, and adaptability.

This position will initially support a single attorney while also serving as a flexible resource for other attorneys across the firm as needed.


Key Responsibilities

Litigation & Case Support

  • E-file and serve pleadings and other court filings in state and federal courts
  • Draft basic orders and assist with preparation of routine filings
  • Prepare, organize, and format discovery requests and responses for attorney review
  • Bates label, redact (as requested), and serve discovery materials
  • Format briefs and appendices for appellate filings
  • Create case timelines and organize key documents for attorney use

Client Intake & Communication

  • Screen potential new clients and conduct conflict checks
  • Exercise sound judgment in declining matters that fall outside established criteria (e.g., case type, value thresholds)
  • Communicate professionally with clients throughout the lifecycle of a matter

Docket & Practice Management

  • Maintain and manage attorney calendar (digital and physical systems)
  • Proactively track deadlines and follow up on outstanding tasks
  • Serve as a checkpoint for unfinished or upcoming work
  • Coordinate with court staff to schedule hearings and confirm procedural requirements

General Support & Collaboration

  • Act as a float/fill-in resource for other attorneys and staff during absences
  • Assist across matters as workload demands shift
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support firm-wide operations

Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting litigation attorneys, preferably in business or commercial litigation
  • Strong familiarity with court procedures, filing requirements, and discovery processes
  • Experience with e-filing systems, document management, and legal software tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional judgment and ability to prioritize competing deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and anticipate attorney needs

Preferred (but not required):

  • Experience with appellate brief formatting
  • Experience managing client intake and conflict processes
