Our client, a global biotechnology company located in Southeast Austin, is seeking a Temporary Buyer to support purchasing and sourcing activities for direct and indirect materials used in a fast-paced biotechnology manufacturing environment. This individual will partner closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure material availability, maintain inventory levels, expedite orders, and support operational objectives while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
This is a 3-4 month contract position with the potential to become a full time role. This role is fully onsite Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30/5PM. Dress code is Business Casual.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase raw materials, laboratory supplies, scientific equipment, business supplies, and services based on inventory requirements and production needs.
- Coordinate purchasing activities with internal departments to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Monitor supplier performance, expedite orders when necessary, and proactively resolve delivery issues.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and support purchasing initiatives.
- Manage inventory using min/max, reorder point, and other inventory planning tools.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities with suppliers.
- Coordinate the disposition of defective or non-conforming materials and drive corrective actions.
- Support project teams with material procurement for new products and customer initiatives.
- Maintain ongoing communication with suppliers, internal customers, and cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- 1-2+ years of purchasing, procurement, or buyer experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing, life sciences, biotechnology, medical device, or diagnostics environment preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience purchasing reagents, chemicals, laboratory products, or scientific equipment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of inventory management principles, units of measure, and material planning concepts.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Associate degree or some college coursework preferred.
