Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Research Operations Specialist to support clinical research operations through document accessibility, process improvement, and administrative coordination. This role will focus on reviewing, remediating, and maintaining research-related documents to ensure compliance with accessibility standards, while also providing operational and administrative support across research programs.

The ideal candidate is process-driven, self-sufficient, and comfortable managing documentation-heavy projects. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to important accessibility initiatives while supporting broader research operations, including purchasing, budgeting, record management, and departmental workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Accessibility & Documentation Management

  • Review electronic documents and research materials for accessibility compliance and usability.
  • Remediate documents created in Microsoft Office applications, PDFs, and other electronic formats to improve accessibility.
  • Evaluate document structure, headings, tables, hyperlinks, forms, alternative text, reading order, and color contrast.
  • Utilize accessibility review tools and manual testing methods to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Develop priorities and remediation plans for accessibility-related projects and document backlogs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, research staff, and administrative teams to obtain source materials and implement accessibility improvements.
  • Create and maintain templates, procedures, workflows, and best practices that support ongoing accessibility compliance.
  • Maintain records of accessibility reviews, remediation efforts, and completed projects.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations regarding accessible document development and formatting standards.
  • Support quality assurance efforts to ensure materials meet established accessibility expectations.

Research Operations & Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support for clinical research and departmental operations.
  • Assist with document management, recordkeeping, reporting, scheduling, and data entry activities.
  • Support purchasing and procurement activities, including preparation and processing of required documentation.
  • Assist with accounts payable processes, invoice tracking, documentation review, and follow-up activities.
  • Help monitor departmental expenditures and budget-related information.
  • Maintain organized and accurate administrative and financial records.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and stakeholders to resolve routine operational and administrative issues.
  • Support website content coordination and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in operational improvement initiatives and workflow development projects.
  • Provide additional research administration support as departmental needs evolve.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with electronic documents, records management, or document remediation.
  • Knowledge of accessibility principles and experience reviewing digital content for accessibility compliance.
  • Experience identifying and correcting accessibility issues within Word, PowerPoint, PDF, or similar document formats.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar PDF editing and remediation tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying ADA accessibility requirements and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, clinical research, or research administration environments.
  • Familiarity with accessibility evaluation tools and assistive technologies.
  • Experience supporting research operations or clinical research programs.
  • Experience with purchasing, accounts payable, budget tracking, or financial administration.
  • Familiarity with research documentation and research-related terminology.
  • Experience developing procedures, templates, training materials, or workflow documentation.
