Billing Specialist

Our client, a growing logistics and transportation company based in Rocky Mount, NC, is seeking a Billing Specialist to join their accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working with high-volume transactions, collaborating across departments, and ensuring customers receive accurate and timely invoices. As the Billing Specialist, you will play a key role in preparing customer invoices, verifying transportation and freight documentation, resolving billing discrepancies, and supporting the company’s revenue cycle processes. Responsibilities As the Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing and processing customer invoices for transportation, freight, and logistics services
- Reviewing shipping documents, rate schedules, and customer contracts to ensure billing accuracy
- Verifying freight charges, fuel surcharges, and accessorial fees prior to invoice submission
- Researching and resolving billing discrepancies, customer inquiries, and invoice disputes
- Collaborating with operations, dispatch, and customer service teams to obtain required billing information
- Maintaining accurate billing records and supporting documentation within company systems
- Reconciling billing reports and assisting with revenue-related account reconciliations
- Supporting month-end close activities by ensuring invoices are processed accurately and on time
- Assisting with customer account maintenance, including updates to rates, terms, and billing preferences
- Identifying opportunities to improve billing processes, increase efficiency, and reduce invoice errors
Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates should have:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of billing, invoicing, accounts receivable, or related accounting experience
- Experience within the transportation, logistics, distribution, or trucking industry is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of billing procedures and revenue cycle processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, and reconciliation functions
- Experience working with ERP, transportation management, or accounting software systems
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
