A Chicago-based law firm is seeking a versatile Human Resources Specialist to support the HR and operations functions in a high-performing legal environment. This role requires a proactive professional with excellent judgment, adaptability, and the ability to navigate a fast-moving, highly visible setting. While the position is primarily HR-focused, the firm may also bundle select marketing support into the role, offering a unique opportunity for a multifaceted candidate. The HR Specialist will work closely with firm leadership, particularly the Director of Operations, to streamline processes, strengthen the employee experience, and serve as a reliable, culture-forward presence in the office.
THE ROLE:
- Handle core HR processes including onboarding, offboarding, benefits coordination, and hiring support across multiple legal practice groups.
- Move tasks forward independently, taking work off the Director of Operations’ plate across HR, operations, and administrative buckets.
- Support Marketing Director with project coordination, logistics, and occasional communications support.
- Support firm culture by serving as a visible, approachable presence during in-office days (3 days per week following training).
- Assist with employee relations touchpoints by helping maintain documentation, answering routine questions, and escalating issues appropriately.
- Help coordinate firm-wide events, meetings, trainings, and practice group activities as needed.
- Maintain organized records, track follow-ups, and ensure timely completion of HR and operations work.
- Build trust across the firm by delivering strong follow-through, consistency, and steady support-balancing warmth with resilience.
YOU:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required.
- 1+ year of HR Experience
- Ability to work with a variety of personalities
- Strong organizational skills and reliability; able to manage multiple tasks without constant reminders.
- Preferred: Experience supporting both HR and marketing functions.
